It got cold during the night and I was wearing my merino wool long underwear and had my down sweater wrapped over my feet. I was fully enveloped in my silk liner and sleeping bag, and slept in one position on my side for most of the night. I had pleasant dreams. Last night upon my arrival at the campground, I conducted a methodical set-up including hanging a bear bag. I had noticed bear scat on the road as I approached the campground. I enjoyed my bag of refried beans and even split open up the bag so that I could thoroughly lick the insides.  This morning the sun started streaming into my tent at 6 AM, and it was time to get up. I c

The birds woke me up early and bright light was streaming in through the window. I managed to roll over and get myself another pleasant dream. I finally got up at 7AM, and my stuff was strewn all over the place. I had been airing out my tent and my laundry was on a line strung across the room. My resupply packages had yet to be opened and all of my thirsty devices had spent the night sucking up juice. Pure Stoke had coffee brewing and it was a slow reorganization and pack-up. The through-hikers got a ride back to the trail as I was shaving. I was back at level one, all of my clothes were clean, and I was resupplied. I rode over to Sub Culture Cycle

I had a little too much fun last night with fellow NOBO dividers Joe and Justin. After the saloon closed we set up our tents, and then drank beer at a picnic table. I woke up this morning with the light, and my tent fly was filled with condensation, which I found odd at 9,000’ elevation. I noticed that my saddle was loose from all of the bumps, and I tightened it. I packed up and went back to the Highline for breakfast. The server was complaining about how the place was in disarray from last night. I had been witness to the rowdiness that ensued, but said nothing. I got the ham and chees

I had forgotten to close both curtains last night and woke up with the sun blasting in at 7 AM. I took a look at the Tour Divide Race which had started at 7 AM, and I reached out to TransAm buddy Steve, who would be beginning his NOBO tour today in Antelope Wells. I folded up my dry tent and sleeping bag, cleaned my water filter, and inspected my rack bolts, which were fine. My body was sore from the past two days. I rode the gorgeous bike trail out of Breckinridge along the Blue River down to Frisco. I had been on this path in 2018 on the TransAm, and managed to get lost on several forks. I was wearing my cycling shorts and short sleeve shirt

Last night evened the score, because in 2018 I had the worst night’s sleep ever in this park. Long story short, in the middle of the night I had gotten soaked by lawn sprinklers. From this experience I learned about sprinklers in western states. There wouldn’t be fields of green grass out here without them. I was fortunate to know about this small park and picnic pavilion. I could hear distant freight trains throughout the night, and somewhat regretted not going to the monster truck rally. The mosquitoes had been bad in town and also at the park. I had forgotten about the military helicopter permanently on display in town. I see so
